Quite a few years ago, in the late 1980s, a friend of mine asked if I had heard the song “Homeless Few” by Petra. I had to confess that it didn’t even sound familiar even though I had spun the “On Fire!” record quite a few times. So, when I got home that night I grabbed the vinyl and carefully dropped the needle to play the song. Upon playing the song I immediately wondered how I could miss such a gem. Musically, it was different than the rest of the songs on the album, but not in a bad way. Lyrically it was impressive in that it touched on a major issue in our society without making it some sort of sappy story or guilt trip. Over the years, this tune has become one of my favorite Petra songs.

This got me to wondering though. What other songs are out there that deserve the spotlight but have somehow gotten buried and overlooked. Over the years I’ve kept an eye out for theses gems and now refer to them as “unheard” songs. I have several of these songs that I'd like to share along with some commentary on each song. I hope to post about these here on Facebook as well as a blog I've started at https://unheardsongs.com.

How about you? Do you have any songs that you think are "unheard". Perhaps a song that time forgot. Maybe a song that just never got the airplay that it deserved. Maybe a guilty pleasure song that you hope your friends never find out you like?
