Mylon LeFevre

RIP Mylon LeFevre (1944-2023)

Chances are you haven't heard of Mylon. However, when he was 17 he wrote a little ole hymn called "Without Him". Shortly thereafter, Elvis recorded that hymn on his "How Great Thou Art" album. Shortly after that, over one hundred artists also recorded the song. Mylon's FIRST royalty check for the song was $90,000. These days, if you can find a hymnbook, chances are that song is in it.

Here are a few of those lyrics:

Without Him, I could do nothing
Without Him, I'd surely fail
Without Him, I would be drifting
Like a ship without a sail

Oh Jesus, oh Jesus
Do you know Him today?
Please don't turn Him away
Oh Jesus, my Jesus
Without Him, how lost I would be
Without Him, how lost I would be

Though he was part of the southern gospel family, The LeFevres, he went on to make more rock-oriented Christian music and made several albums throughout his career. I like several of his songs, but my absolute favorite has always been "More". Below are the lyrics, and attached is a video of him performing that song with his band "Broken Heart". He spends the first few minutes introducing the song with his great Mississippi accent. You can tell by his words that he had a great heart for God.

VERSE 1
Break my heart and change my mind
Cut me loose from ties that bind
Lead me as I follow You
Give me strength to follow through

VERSE 2
Holy Spirit, fill me up
Gently overflow my cup
Touch my eyes and let me see
Me in You and You in me

PRE-CHORUS:
Oh, more, more, I wanna be more like Jesus

CHORUS:
More of Jesus less of me
By His power I will be
Like a flower in the spring,
Brand new life in everything

More (more, more, more)
I wanna be more,
I need to be more like Jesus,
more (repeat x4)

Jesus. More…(more, more….)
