Is Self-Defenestration Even a Word?

Full disclosure: I'm sort of a dork. Whenever I come a cross a new word I don't know, I tend to look it up. I literally put my book down, or at least flip to a browser app and do a google search for new found word. Sometimes I even pause the TV show we're watching to look up a word. Drives the family nuts. A plus.

Several years ago we were watching Dark Angel and Mr. Hoaky Badguy, maybe you've heard of him, used a new word, to me.  Defenestration. Defa-what-now? I didn't actually have to pause the show because Mr. Badguy explained to Loser Victim Guy (no relation) what was going to happen if he didn't cooperate. Mr. Badguy was sort-of a jerk.

Defenestration. Noun. The action of throwing someone or something out of a window. To make it more fun, use it as a verb. "Mr. Badguy is defenestrating Loser Guy." or "To late, Loser Guy has been defenestrated."

We have a running gag around my house. Whenever I get frustrated at something, I yell out in desperation, "I'm just going to self-defenestrate!" It's met with many an eye roll, as the windows in our house are barely six inches off the ground. The most damage I would do is stub my unshoed toes or bang my head on the window pane on the way out.

Is self-defenestration even a word? Whatever the case, words are fun.
