Have You Ever Been Pineappled?

The dictionary returns the definition "Flavored or decorated with pineapple" for pineappled. Don't bother looking it up in the urban dictionary. Those degens can pervert any word, and do. Sometimes a pineapple can reference a hand grenade. My definition is nowhere near that explosive. No, I don't mean any of that.

Let's back up a few years. I watching Psych, the police dramedy about Shawn Spencer who pretends he's a psychic detective to solve cases cause he's really just to0 lazy to become a real detective. Half way through the series me and the boys found out there was a hidden pineapple in "almost" every episode. So we looked, paused, rewound, and whatever else we could think of. We were not good at this. I'm not sure we ever found a pineapple unless it was part of the plot. There are a few websites dedicated to listing the pineapple in each episode. Without it we were lost.

That got us to thinking though. What other shows have things in them that are in plain site. Things that happen all the time and we hardly notice it.

About that same time we were also watching "My So Called Life". Go ahead. You can make fun of me for watching a silly girly angst-ridden teen show. For whatever reason, I like the show.

Several episodes in we realized something. Nobody ever says goodbye in the show. The conversations just end, and people walk off! We found their pineapple! I got to thinking just how realistic that is. At school. At church. At work. Once we're done talking, we're done, and just walk off. "How rude!".

My understanding is that my great grandma Teague was a master at this. When she was done talking on the phone, there was no goodbye, no see you later, no nothing – but a click. It didn't really matter if you were done with the conversation or not.

Maybe human nature makes it difficult for us to say goodbye. Seems too definite. Even "see you later" indicates separation. Maybe it's just easier to walk off.

So, I return to the beginning. Have you ever been pineappled? Perhaps you are the pineapplee.

...L8r peeps.
