Chapters

Some 19ish years ago, Julie and were expecting our first child. The task of naming that kid came to mind and we poured over many names and looked through many books for just the perfect name. We finally settled on a very specific book, and tossed all the "baby name" books to the side. It was quite clear to us that we were starting a new chapter in our lives. A new beginning. And so, what better name to represent a new beginning than "Noah."

Now that Noah has moved out to college, it seems a new chapter is afoot. We aren't yet empty nesters, but it's clear that chapters are wrapping up and new ones are beginning. Endings can be bittersweet, but my curiosity tells me the future is exciting. Like I told Noah recently, "With Christ at your side, it will be a grand adventure indeed."

In light of this new horizon, I decided to read through one of my favorite books, "The Magician's Nephew" from "The Chronicles of Narnia" series by C.S. Lewis. If you aren't familiar with the book, it's the tale of the creation of Narnia from utter blackness and nothingness to a vibrant land of wonder. It is a kids book after all.

Which finally brings me to the point of this post. There are a few quotes from the book that I noticed this time through that I quite liked, and I thought I'd randomly share with anyone wanting to listen:

"Narnia, Narnia, Narnia, awake. Love. Think. Speak. Be walking trees. Be talking beasts. Be divine waters."
"For what you see and hear depends a good deal on where you are standing: it also depends on what sort of person you are."
"Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed."
"Digory slipped off the horse and found himself face to face with Aslan. And Aslan was bigger and more beautiful and more brightly golden and more terrible than he had thought. He dared not look into the great eyes."
